Solid Surface was invented by Dupont in 1967 and was patented in 1968. Solid Surface became very popular because of its ability to create almost any shape with inconspicuous seams or even invisible. Solid Surface is a mix of acrylic polymers. It is non-porous making it near impossible for stains to take hold making this product perfect for kitchens and baths and also for hospitals, restaurants, hotels, and much more due to the fact that bacteria cannot build up.

Solid Surface is an eco-friendly non-porous surface. It can be fabricated in the same way as wood into a visually seamless design that inhibits the growth of bacteria and mold.

CAN I PLACE FOOD DIRECTLY ON HIMACS SOLID SURFACE?

Solid Surface is a non-porous product that resists staining, and the growth of mold, mildew, or bacteria, making it ideal for hygienic areas. Solid Surface is NSF-approved for food preparation areas in restaurants and bars. Its exceptionally smooth non-porous surface makes it easy to clean.

HOW DO I MAINTAIN SOLID SURFACE ON A DAILY BASIS?

Due to its non-porous attribute, there is no wax or sealant required for any special care of the product. Normal cleaning only requires soap and water or a damp cloth with a mild cleanser.

When you do so, we recommend periodically cleaning the entire surface in a circular motion to maintain uniformity. Do not allow cleaners, such as those designed for drains, toilets, and ovens to contact Solid Surface. Some of these cleaners can cause whitening which can be difficult to remove. DOES SOLID SURFACE SCRATCH?

Solid Surface is a softer material. The product does scuff. While it does maintain its aesthetic to a high degree, some darker colours are not ideal for high traffic areas. That said, the product can be polished to its original finish.
